The Nation of Israel should act in it's own interests without regard to what the babbling idiots in Washington are saying. Sanctions get us nowhere with regards to countries like Iran, North Korea, etc.
Most Americans are supportive of Israel in this undertaking...STOP listening to our "media" and so called government.

A great speech, great eloquent presentation of facts concerning Israel’s quest and hope for peace. A great speech delivered at a place where it needs to be heard and where it needed to be delivered. It now should be distributed (and hopefully is) to all media not only in US but even more urgently to European countries, and particularly to Scandinavian countries as a step towards, and in hope of, leading to “a fair press whose sense of history extends beyond breakfast”. It needs to be distributed in hope of elucidating Israel’s drive, commitment, and steps undertaken (and sadly or conveniently forgotten by them). Steps undertaken without reciprocity; steps undertaken by Israel towards achieving piece with Israel’s neighbors including Palestinians.

Thank you Prime Minister Natanyahu for delivering the speech, and thank you Consul General Aviran distributing the transcript.

Rarely are we treated to remarks of such eloquence from someone who has the courage to tell the truth. Let's hope the interested parties will listen and act accordingly.
Listening to Mr. Netanyahu's speech was like letting fresh air into a place known for its Israel bashing.

Thanks for a memorable speech!

Marc,

I am not sure where you got this idea. As an Israeli I can attest that most of the people in Israel want and wish for peace and the end of war. It has been exhausting and doesn't do any good to either the Israelis nor the Palestinians.

That being said, it is also important to understand that Israel cannot implement peace by itself. It needs a partner in order to be able to sustain a peaceful and meaningful life in co-existence. Such peace has to be relying on solid foundation that will ensure the Israelis with the security and peace of mind they are seeking. It also has to define clear borders between Israel and the Palestinian state. Such peace agreement has to rely on the foundation of trust and mutual respect of both sides and most of all - acknowledging each other right to exist.

Unfortunately, over the past years the Palestinians provoked Israel with numerous terror activities that made Israel even though they both were engaged in peace negotiation. In addition the Palestinian declaration of independence contain a clause calling to the destruction of Israel. Ever since Oslo meetings, Israel requested the Palestinians again and again to remove this clause as an act of good faith. The Palestinians not only did not remove it but announced many times that they will never remove it.

This is only the tip of the iceberg, showing why the Israelis may seem hesitating to make additional concessions in order to push the peace process forward. In fact at some point Israel was willing to go the extra mile and offered the Palestinians full deployment of all of their requirements however the Palestinians then refused and came up with an "upgraded" list of new demands.

I think if we look at the history of the world, the state always seemed the bad guy when it fought the minority. However, in this particular case, the state is equally victimized compared to the minority.

Can someone explain why Palestinian statehood would be particularly damaging to Israel? Wouldn't having a Palestinian state where Palestinian refugees could be assimilated decrease the legitimacy of Arab demands for a "right of return" that would flood Israel and eradicate it as a Jewish state?

Can you post a link to the full report? Some of the data seems to contradict the World Bank's recent report, so it would be nice to compare actual numbers.

As a Jewish American, one of many, I proudly support Israel's decision to reluctantly oblige Turkey's request. Israel is the tiny country trying to ebb out an existence among her many fighting neighbors. With the current unrest in Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Gaza, Libya etc. Turkey must feel the need to join this coalition. It will come as no surprise when Israel is attacked, that Turkey is no ally of Israel's and will be deemed as such by those who will stand with HER when retaliating.
