Israeli Reaction to President Obama’s Speech

In reaction to today’s speech by President Obama in Cairo, the Government of Israel released the following statement:

The Government of Israel expresses its hope that this important speech in Cairo will indeed lead to a new period of reconciliation between the Arab and Moslem world and Israel.

We share President Obama’s hope that the American effort heralds the beginning of a new era that will bring about an end to the conflict and lead to Arab recognition of Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people, living in peace and security in the Middle East.

Israel is committed to peace and will make every effort to expand the circle of peace while protecting its interests, especially its national security.

How very political and polite. So, how do you REALLY feel about having to give up Jerusalem? And did you really enjoy all those references to the Quran? And how about the prospects of stopping Israel’s growth by not building any more neighborhoods, er…settlements – and maybe even getting rid of a few of the ones that are already there? And what about the equating of dead Palistinian children, killed by Israeli military in army ops, to those children who were bombarded with rockets in Sderot and blown up on buses by militants…er…terrorists…How do you REALLY feel, Israeli Consulate people? Now the TRUTH – please?

Judy, it’s people like you who never give peace a chance. He referred to the Quran so what? Didn’t he reference the Bible? He would have referenced any book used by the warring factions and that will be just beside the point. You must know that both Palestinians and Israelis have suffered and if you can’t compare the killings regardless of how it was done, I think Palestinians have lost more lives than Israel.

All Obama is trying to do is for both parties to sit down and make concessions and compromises before the situation in the ME gets out of hand. There will be gnashing of teeth and everybody will be the looser if you guys refuse to use common sense to solve the problem. Please for peace sake you guys should throw religion out of the door and use common sense to solve your problems before it’s too late for all.

    Well said Neutral.

And Judy using “loaded” language is also a huge part of the problem. These are not “neighbourhoods” nor are they natural, organic growth they are expansions of settlements which are acknowledged as being illegal under international law. To dress them up as “neighbourhoods” is just silly since virtually everyone except for the far right in israel – holding the coalition together sees them as legitimate. And yes, actually international law states that all settlements should be removed. Just because the state of Israel has turned a blind eye to them and their growth over the last 40 years does not legitimise them.

As for dead children killed by rocket fire in Sderot? Remind me how many was it again? And how many killed in Gaza by the IDF, one of the most comprehensively and expensively armed fighting units in the world, and how many children as a percentage of all casualties in that conflict? Seriously Judy it would be nice to think that some saw this as an opportunity but I suspect not and I suspect the forthcoming speech will be full of the usual BS.

Let’s just hope for the peace of Jerusalem on Obama’s plan.
