   Horrible indeed, tonight for the first time the full scale of the impact of qassam attacks on Sderot was shown on dutch national TV.
   Quite rightly so, the world should no about this.

   Please spare a thought for the many kibbutzim on the Gaza border, whose members have suffered from the same attacks for the past 7 years. My kibbutz, Nir-Am, is situated on the Gaza border, between Sderot and Beit Hanoun, where many of the Kassam bombs are fired from. Many of the Kassam bombs fired towards Sderot fall in our kibbutz. Last evening, a Kassam scored a direct hit on a restaurant in the kibbutz, destroying it completely. Fortunately, the restaurant was closed at the time, due to the continuing Kassam attacks on the kibbutz. We have also had bombs fall next to our dining room, our children houses and among our homes during the past few days.

   We have no safe rooms and our children are in mortal danger. We have about 7-10 seconds to run for a communal shelter when the alarm sounds, warning us and the residents of Sderot of an incoming missile. This does not give us enough time to reach the shelters, and we usually just lie flat on the ground, and cover our children with our own bodies.

   Our children are severely traumatized by 7 years of bombing; they all suffer from nightmares, bedwetting, and problems at school related to lack of concentration. Many of them are in therapy in an effort to ease the terrible strain they live under.

   A safe room costs $10 000. That is the price of their safety. But we don’t have the funds to build these rooms ourselves, and we have been waiting for the Government to make our homes safe for many years now.

   The kibbutzim situated within striking distance of the Kassam bombs in the northern part of Gaza are: Nir-Am, Nahal Oz, Erez, Kfar Aza, Mefalsim, Or Haner, Bror Hail, Sa’ad, as well as the kibbutzim situated between Gaza and Ashqelon.

   There is a young Russian fella who does odd jobs for us – about 19 yrs old. I am encouraging him to go to Sderot and help. He speaks Russian, Hebrew and English. Hope he goes! It will be very good for him to help others.
